Jane Becktel lives on the beautiful Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia.
She is a classically trained musician and experienced singing leader. After years of voice training Jane realised that she did not have the voice of a diva so decided to hide in a choir. From then on she was hooked.
Jane founded and directed Morningsong Choir in Bulimba, QLD, a world music community choir. She also founded and directed the enthusiastic and talented VIV Singers (Vision In Voice) in Capalaba QLD, a choir for visually impaired singers and for those with aphasia. Both of these very vibrant choirs are still singing and making joyful waves in the community.
From 2006-10 she worked as a mentor music teacher for The Song Room, a non-profit philanthropic organisation based in Melbourne with the late Dame Elisabeth Murdoch as a patron, dedicated to bringing music to underprivileged children. Some of this work took her to the Mater Children’s Hospital Special School in Brisbane.
She began Jubila Singers in 2011 and from small beginnings it has grown into a strongly supported, dynamic SATB choir.
Jane Becktel holds a music degree, B.Mus.(Hons), University of Adelaide, Elder Conservatorium, and a Diploma in Education (Adel). She finds no greater joy than showing singers of all levels of experience how fulfilling it is to sing together in harmony.
